St Nicholas Fair

Details

York’s favourite festive market is back to bring you the ultimate Christmas experience in the city.

St Nicholas Fair, York Christmas Festival’s Scandinavian-style festive market, fills the streets with magical market stalls and merriment from 17 November right up to 23 December. Soak up the atmosphere and aromas of warming mulled wine and freshly cooked food whilst you wander and enjoy a unique shopping experience.

The Festive First Night takes place on 17 November, kick-starting the celebrations across York this Christmas. The night will see the official opening of the St Nicholas Fair and the Christmas light switch on, with illuminations bigger and better than ever sprinkling light across the city’s cobbled streets.

Traditional chalets will shine out from their positions along Parliament Street, St Sampson’s Square and The Judge’s Lodging, where Small Business Christmas will be taking place. The Made In Yorkshire Festive Fayre will be held at the Guildhall and this year there’s new sites such as Coppergate, where you’ll be spoilt for choice with inspired gift and stocking filler ideas. Local flavour will fill York’s famous Shambles Market, with an array of tasty treats on offer. Thor’s Tipi is back on Parliament Street after a popular first season, the perfect place to snuggle up around a log fire and enjoy a hot chocolate or something stronger. There’s a choice of mulled wine, Christmas cocktails and draft ales available from an independent licensed bar. There’s even an outdoor BBQ – not the first thing that springs to mind at Christmas time!

Brass instruments will provide the soundtrack to your York Christmas Festival experience with a fanfare on Brass Band Weekend between the 19 and 20 November and there’ll be a generous sprinkling of carols during Choirs Weekend between 26 and 27 November. Plus, don’t miss the glittering ice sculptures which will line the streets of York during the Ice Trail weekend of 10 and 11 December.
