One of York's great historic treasures and one of its best kept secrets.......

Step through the doors of York's civic history from the simplicity of the hall way to the grandeur of the Stateroom, from seeking the secret drawers hidden in a bureau to discovering the chamber pot! The Mansion House is a fascinating building just waiting to be discovered!

The Mansion House is the home of the Lord Mayors of York, started in 1725 this was the First Purpose built residence for a Lord Mayor in the country.

Tours available for group visits:

Silver tour - the Mansion House is has one of the largest collections of silver outside London with many unique items including a silver chamber pot and gold goblet!

Mansion House / Guildhall architectural tour - exploring the architectural heritage with some secret surprises!

Tea dances to tanks - the role of the Lord Mayors and the city during WW1, which covers stories from chocolate boxes given to the troops and theior amazing thank you letters through to conscientious objectors!

Chocolate tour - this can involve history, making and tasting! After all, the Mansion House is the home of Chocolate mayors...

Candle lit tours and spooky stories - exploring the darker side of the house and experiencing a house in candlelight.

Opening details

11am, 12.30pm & 2pm every Thursday, Friday & Saturday from Mar-Dec. Open all year for pre-booked groups for silver, candlelit and spooky stories, behind the scenes, and connoisseur tours.

PLEASE NOTE: The Mansion House is currently closed for renovation. The building will reopen in late 2017.
