Oleg Ponomarev, Lev Atlas violins Nigel Clark guitar

Koshka stand at the cutting edge of gypsy music. Oleg Ponomarev is a master of the gypsy violin, combining rigour with Russian flair, he joins forces with Russian violinist Lev Atlas and Scottish jazz guitarist Nigel Clark to form this dazzling trio.

The band honed their sound at Glasgow’s Russian Cafe Cossachok, where they developed their combination of classical precision and wild gypsy panache. Their music encompasses many styles – Russian airs, hotclub numbers reminiscent of Grappelli and Django Reinhardt, cafe-style pieces and wildfire gypsy string tunes. Played with bravura, wit and innovation, all delivered with exceptional musicianship.

‘Gypsy virtuosity meets classical rigour...a meeting of minds and traditions, that the old fox Grappelli would surely have enjoyed’ The Sunday Times
